On May 27th, 2021, Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc announced that they had located 215 unmarked children’s graves at a residential school site in Kamloops, BC. That day I started creating and photographing still-lifes composed of ribbons. This was my personal way of responding to and acknowledging the ongoing tragedy of Canadian residential schools. The image colours and designs were inspired by memories of my own childhood. Every child matters.
